To invoice dog walking clients monthly, list each type of walk with the number completed and the price, add extras such as additional dogs or late cancellations as separate lines, and send the invoice on the same day each month with a clear due date.

Should dog walkers invoice weekly or monthly?
Monthly suits regular clients and means less admin. Weekly suits new clients or irregular bookings and keeps amounts smaller. Many walkers use monthly for regulars and invoice one-off clients straight away.
What should a monthly dog walking invoice include?
Your details, the client, an invoice number, the month covered, each walk type with quantity and price, extras, the total and payment details.
How do you invoice cancellations?
State your cancellation policy in your agreement first. Then show a late cancellation as its own dated line so it is clear it was not a walk.
How do you charge for additional dogs?
Add the extra dog as a separate line or a per-walk supplement, so the client sees why the price differs from a single-dog walk.
Solo, group walks and pet sitting
Keep them on separate lines with their own prices. Pet sitting and drop-in visits should never be lumped in with walks.
Payment terms
Seven days is common for monthly invoices. Put the due date on every invoice and chase politely once it passes.
Sample month
- Group walks × 8 at £15: £120
- Solo walks × 2 at £25: £50
- Additional dog supplement × 4 at £5: £20
- Late cancellation — 14 Oct: £15
Say "Invoice Lucy for eight group walks at £15 and two solo walks at £25" and SaidToPaid builds the draft for you to check.

Payment terms
Payment is due within 7 days of the invoice date. Walks may be paused if an invoice is overdue.
Cancellations
Walks cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice are charged in full.
Bad weather
In extreme heat or severe weather we may shorten a walk or swap it for a garden visit, for your dog's safety. The normal price applies.
Vet emergencies
If your dog is hurt or unwell and we cannot reach you, you authorise us to take your dog to your vet. Vet fees are your responsibility.
The late payment law only covers business-to-business invoices. Fixed compensation is £40 on debts under £1,000, £70 up to £9,999.99 and £100 from £10,000.
Dog walker checklist (UK)
- Check your council's rules. Many have orders limiting how many dogs one person can walk, often 4 to 6.
- Dog walking itself does not usually need a licence in England, but home boarding and day care do.
- Have public liability insurance, plus cover for care, custody and control and for holding client keys.
- Keep a signed form for each dog with vet details, emergency contact and permission to treat.
- Agree your cancellation and payment terms in writing before the first walk.
General guidance, checked October 2026. Rules change and vary by council, so check with your local authority, insurer or HMRC.
